Pues aquí estoy para romper los moldes. No es algo que haya querido hacer, sino algo que siempre me ha acompañado. Pero antes, mi nombre es Danny, aunque puedes llamarme Danny Sawyer o The 90’s Kid (“El niño de los 90”). Empecemos por el principio.

Desde bien enano supe que quería dedicarme a la música: escribí mi primera canción a los 6 ó 7 años (era una mierda, pero me parecía un temazo), produje mi primer tema a los 13 con un micro de 3 pavos y casi nulos de conocimientos de producción musical y, a los 16 ya estaba metido en un estudio con músicos de sesión y toda la pesca grabando los primeros temas que lanzaría en mi álbum debut.

¿Y por qué la música? Bueno, era la que siempre estaba ahí para evadirme y ayudarme.

Siendo crío las pasé putas en el colegio por el bullying. Era un chaval al que le gustaban las Spice Girls, cantar y tenía un culo que parecían cuatro. Vamos, que las tenía todas para ser el objetivo de mis compañeros. Los 90 fueron duros, pero también me dieron maravillas con las que evadirme de la mierda que tenía que tragar siendo un mocoso.

Pensé que en el insti se iba a acabar esa movida, pero a los 14 me pillé de un notas de mi clase. Y se enteró todo el pueblo y bueno… Era como ser famoso. Niñatos que no había visto en mi vida me venían a pedir explicaciones (hubiese preferido que me pidiesen autógrafos, sinceramente). El acoso era constante y tedioso. Pero tenía la música. Así que todo era más llevadero.

En fin, pasada la adolescencia y entre diversos fracasos amorosos y traumas varios, conocí a un chico que, bueno, lo cambió todo. Y me dio para escribir un álbum entero. Como si de la banda sonora de una película mazo dramática se tratase.

¿Y en cuanto a la banda sonora de mi vida? Spice Girls, Justin Timberlake, Sia, Gin Wigmore o Marky Mark han sido grandes acompañantes e influencias musicales en mi historia. Es difícil definir qué estilo de música hago, pues no tiene nada que ver con lo que escucha la peña ahora. Supongo que si mezclamos el pop-dance, hip-hop y blues-rock de los años 90 con la actualidad sale esto: Danny. Dispuesto a romper los moldes.

If there’s one thing that Danny knows how to do, that is standing out amongst the rest, making himself noticeable in a thousand and one ways, between them, telling his own stories and using the music as his main instrument for this. And the thing is that each song takes part of the artist’s life lessons, who put himself for the first time in a recording studio the day of his 16th birthday, with the only support of a young producer.

By that time, he already had a bunch of stories to tell, and the experience of a teenage boy, who comes from an ordinary and humble family and a place where being successful is a synonym for unreachable, shows up amongst his songs (“Fall Down/Stand Up”).

At the age of 17 and with really little economic resources, Danny had already recorded two demos (“See U on the Other Side” & “Take Me Home”) and taken part of the first public casting for the Spanish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, not very far away from the famous faces and known artists whom he couldn’t snatch a secure position into the finals for the Spanish entry. And he also took part of the 2013 RTVE contest, aiming to the 10th position in the public voting between more than 200 contestants.

Having very small resources and after recording in a professional studio a small amount of songs, Danny decides to embark himself in the music production and records “The Cigarette Boy”, the first single of what would give birth to his debut album, “Schizophonic”.

Art and Danny have always been part of the same being, wether it is through music, photography or drawing. That’s why he’s in charge of all all of his projects, either writing in Spanish and English (“Adiós, California”, “Feliz Para Siempre”), composing and producing and creating his own songs (“Goodbye, California”, “Heroin”), designing the artwork for his music or even (co-)directing and producing his music videos (“Happy Ever After”, “The Cigarette Boy”).
